About Me

I've been a social worker for over 20 years, and most of my life has been rooted here in Tennessee (with a brief Texas detour). Don't let appearances fool you, I've lived through my own messes. I know how complicated life can be and I believe in creating space for both the beauty and the chaos. I don't shy away from the hard stuff - in fact, I think that's where some of the most meaningful growth happens.

My Background and Approach

With over two decades of experience in the field of social work, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of people  in many different settings - from medical and school environments to community-based and crisis-focused work. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the emotional weight people carry, especially when they're in caregiving roles or navigating major life challenges.

Over the years, I've developed a strong foundation in working with trauma, grief, and loss - and I've learned how to hold space for people when life feels overwhelming or uncertain.  My approach is compassionate and shaped by real-life experience. I aim to create a space where you don't have to have all the answers - just a willingness to show up as you are.

Education

2021

Master of Management in Health Care
Vanderbilt University

During my Master of Management in Healthcare program, I had the opportunity to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds across the healthcare field. This experience allowed me to deepen my knowledge in healthcare, including finance, operations, strategy, and team development. It was an invaluable investment in my growth as a leader, providing me with the skills to foster strong, collaborative teams while learning from the expertise of other talented clinicians in my cohort.

2001

Master of Science in Social Work
University of Tennessee

In my social work graduate studies, I learned how to use proven methods to help individuals and groups overcome challenges. I was trained to approach my work with empathy, cultural awareness, and a focus on social justice, especially for people facing poverty or unfair treatment. I also gained experience working with other professionals as part of a team, preparing me to help people heal, grow, and thrive.

2000

Bachelor of Arts in Social Work
University of Memphis

During my bachelor’s degree, I learned about social justice, human rights, and the importance of respecting diversity in all of us. One of the most impactful experiences was working in a hospital with people living with HIV and AIDS, when effective antiretroviral treatments weren’t widely available. It was during this time that I first started to truly understand the realities of grief, loss, and trauma—lessons that have stayed with me and continue to shape how I approach supporting others today.
